Hey Marco Island! We at Sun and Scene hope you are enjoying the weather change here in Marco. It has finally started to dip down in temperature 🌡 in the evenings and become warm in the sunshine 🌞
It is almost time for the Thanksgiving Holiday but most of all, time for spending time together again with our friends from up North who are returning. The Island seems to be buzzing. The stores are busier. The restaurants are fuller. We're approaching the "Season".

November 2025 Kayak Fishing Event Almost Upon Us |

A major leadership change is underway in Marco Island after City Manager Mike McNee officially resigned.
His departure was accepted by the City Council during a recent meeting, following a previous resignation attempt in July.
The move caps months of reported friction within city leadership.
The council acted swiftly to prevent a leadership vacuum, appointing Assistant City Manager Dr. Casey Lucious to the role on an interim basis.
The appointment is a historic one for the community.
Dr. Lucious is now the first female city manager in Marco Island's history.
Despite the milestone, she expressed a desire for a competitive hiring process for the permanent position, stating she wants to earn the role.
The city will now begin the formal search for a permanent replacement while Dr. Lucious guides the administration. Read More... |

Long before it was Key Marco, the shell mounds of Horr's Island held a dark secret rooted in local folklore.
Around the year 1799, a treacherous band of pirates used the coves near Caxambas Pass as a base for their violent raids on merchant ships.
Their notoriety grew so great that the U.S. Navy was dispatched to eradicate their hidden village north of Cape Romano.
Following a fierce confrontation, six captured buccaneers were sentenced to hang from a large gumbo-limbo tree on the island.
Before his execution, the pirate leader issued a chilling curse, swearing his crew would haunt the shell mounds forever.
The warning was ignored.
To this day, some residents claim that on the night of the harvest moon, the ghostly lights of a pirate campfire can still be seen flickering near the old hanging tree. Read More... |
