Naples Student Wins Prestigious Tech Award for Innovative Weather App |
Gulf Coast High School's Dallas Szittai has earned top honors from Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart's office in the annual Congressional App Challenge for a potentially life-saving tool. |
A local student from Gulf Coast High School is making waves in the tech world after creating an innovative weather application. Dallas Szittai was recently announced as the winner of the 10th annual Congressional App Challenge for Florida's 26th District.
The prestigious competition is hosted each year by the office of Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart to encourage student participation in STEM fields. Szittai's winning creation, an app named Warn.live, immediately caught the attention of the judges with its practical and critical function.
The app provides real-time severe weather alerts by seamlessly pairing live radar data with official warnings and advisories from the National Weather Service.
Its key feature is the ability to send instant push notifications, a tool that officials noted could dramatically improve community safety during severe weather events in Southwest Florida.
The high schooler shared that his passion for weather and a desire to learn web development were the driving forces behind the app's creation.
He described the challenge as not just a lesson in technical problem-solving but also in managing time effectively under intense pressure.
Szittai plans to continue developing Warn.live, with ambitious goals to expand its notification system nationwide and integrate more advanced weather-tracking features.
His success highlights the incredible talent emerging from Collier County schools and the bright future of local student innovation. |
