Marco Island YMCA Pushes Forward with $8.5M Expansion for Seniors

The planned two-story, 17,000-square-foot 'Active Life Center' aims to meet the demands of a growing senior population, with fundraising now in full swing.

A bold new chapter is unfolding for the Marco Island YMCA as it champions an ambitious plan for a new facility.

The new 17,000-square-foot building is already under construction on Marco Island's 9-acre campus, and the funds are at 75% of its $8.5 million goal.

The facility will be known as the 'Active Life Center,' and the two-story structure represents a significant investment in local wellness and social infrastructure.  This project is a direct response to an overwhelming demand for more senior-focused programming in the community.

Plans for the new center are impressive, featuring a modern fitness and wellness center on the second floor.  A balcony overlooking the pickleball and tennis courts is also part of the design, connecting different aspects of the active campus.  The ground floor will host a completely redesigned lobby, a cafĂ©, and a large multi-purpose space for a variety of senior programs.

Officials hope to finish in mid-2026, and then open the doors in the fall.

The core mission is to ensure accessibility for all seniors, regardless of their financial status.  Many seniors in the community live on fixed incomes, and the YMCA is committed to removing cost as a barrier to participation.  The new facility is poised to become a vital hub, offering a modern and welcoming environment for residents for years to come.
